French resident who allegedly swallowed 84 packages of cocaine to smuggle them into Australia will appear in a Melbourne court today. The 25-year-old will face Melbourne Magistrates' Court charged with importing a marketable amount of cocaine. Customs officers stopped and questioned the man after he arrived at Melbourne Airport on Saturday on a flight from Dubai in the Middle East.
The officers became suspicious that the man was concealing drugs internally and took him to Royal Melbourne Hospital. They allege a scan revealed the man was concealing the packages. The packages were believed to contain about 672 grams of cocaine, however forensic testing is yet to be carried out on the substance to confirm this.
