Ernest B. Cecil, was sentenced to 12 years in a federal prison on Friday for his role in conspiring to sell drugs.
While he was a police officer, Cecil, 50, and former Metro Officer Charles Williams III robbed another drug dealer of cocaine but made it look like a legitimate law enforcement stop.
Their actions allowed Cecil's nephew, Corey Cecil, to escape with the cocaine and make $70,000 from the sale, officials said.

Ernest Cecil on one count of conspiracy to distribute over 500 grams of cocaine; one count of aiding and abetting the possession with the intent to distribute over 500 kilograms of cocaine in violation; one count of robbery; and one count of brandishing a firearm during a drug robbery, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's office.former Metro police officer has been sentenced to serve 12 years in federal prison for convictions on federal drug and robbery charges.
Evidence presented during the four-day trial showed that Cecil helped and protected his nephew Corey Cecil's drug distribution activities for more than two years.
Cecil warned his nephew about police investigations including advising him to change his telephone number when his name was mentioned in connection with the investigations.
Cecil also arranged for his nephew's traffic tickets to be dismissed.
The trial also revealed that Ernest Cecil participated in a drug robbery in 2003.
He also arranged a pseudo drug bust with another former officer Charles R. Williams. In a separate trial last January, Williams was convicted of misprision of a felony for his involvement in the April 2003 robbery, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's office.
