"Officers, who saw the passengers arrive became suspicious as the two suspects looked nervous. Officers at the check point saw two bags that only had food in them," he said. After waiting for a few minutes, the two Taiwainese came to claim the bags. Officers found it suspicious the bags only contained food and asked the passengers to open them. Officers then examined the snack boxes and found 29 bags containing crystal methamphetamine wrapped in aluminum foil.
Eko Darmanto, chief of intelligence at the customs office, said the suspects told officers someone would to pick up the drugs as soon as they arrived at the airport.
"We always pay extra attention to all passengers arriving from Hong Kong, China, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore. Those are the countries along the drug smuggling routes," he said. According to Eko, it was the third drug smuggling attempt customs officers have foiled since February.
