Brandon A. Edwards, 35, of Wilmer, Ala., was arrested shortly after a sheriff's deputy searched his vehicle in a stop about 12:41 a.m. Thursday at Mississippi 613 and Carlos Keyes Road in Hurley. He was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance after deputies reported finding a couple of bags of cocaine and marijuana. Edwards, authorities said, was sitting in the front passenger seat of his red 1996 Toyota Corolla, with his girlfriend driving and another friend in the back seat, when they were stopped for weaving. The arresting officer said he got suspicious when he noticed Edwards and the other passengers were nervous.
Deputies seized an undisclosed amount of cocaine and about 48 grams of marijuana.
Edwards was the only one arrested. He was taken to the Jackson County jail pending a bond hearing.
