Sean Foot has got his wish for a discharge without conviction

Sean Foot has got his wish for a discharge without conviction on a charge of possessing ecstasy, so that the offence won't blight his film career
Foot pleaded guilty in Christchurch District Court today to possessing a small amount of the class B drug.
Judge David Holderness granted the discharge but gave Foot 90 minutes to make a $400 donation to the Salvation Army.
Foot resigned from his job as a teacher at Christchurch's Design and Arts College four months ago when he was arrested on the drug charge.
He has worked with Peter Jackson's Weta Workshop film special effects company in Wellington on Heavenly Creatures, the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and The Chronicles of Narnia which won an Academy Award for achievement in make-up.
Defence counsel Kerry Cook said Foot's work with cinema prosthetics meant he had to travel all over the world, particularly to America.
He said any drug conviction "even one for a small amount of class B drug'' would hamper his ability to travel, although it might not necessarily rule it out.
He said Foot had no previous convictions and had learned a salutary lesson.
